The most reliable source for any pure-bred puppy is a breeder who is knowledgeable about their breed, screens for genetic diseases, offers a written guarantee, information and assistance. They usually belong to a local or national Miniature Schnauzer club where they can network with other knowledgeable breeders. They breed according to the AKC Miniature Schnauzer standard, for temperament, good health, and soundness.
Most breeder’s puppies are part of the family, raised in homes where socialization is part of each day. When you contact a breeder about the potential purchase of a puppy, he may ask you many questions about you and your family and your living situation in order to match the right puppy to the right home. He will expect to answer all of your many questions too. An older puppy and adult dog might also be a great choice if you don’t have the time or inclination to deal with housebreaking and early training, plus ‘what you see is what you get’.
Whichever puppy or adult you eventually choose, be sure to buy it dependent upon your own veterinarian’s approval after a health checkup… get this in writing before you commit to the puppy.
