If you are no longer able or willing to care for your Miniature Schnauzer, you should first contact the breeder from whom you purchased your pet. If the breeder is not able to help, please contact the AMSC recognized rescue group or regional Miniature Schnauzer club closest to you.
You should be prepared to complete an intake questionnaire and provide a recent photograph along with your dog’s veterinary records and AKC registration papers. You may be asked to have the dog brought up-to-date on required vaccinations and/or groomed prior to surrender.
Also, the rescue group or local club may need time to arrange for foster care for your dog before it enters the rescue program. Unless it is an emergency, please be patient. If the rescue group or local club is not able to help or does not respond, please contact the AMSC rescue chair.
We strongly discourage surrendering your dog to a shelter. Miniature Schnauzers generally do not do well in a shelter environment. Their behavior is often mistaken as aggression and they will likely be euthanized. Please, don’t risk your pet’s life.
